Our SE1 Nursery
The Arc Nursery is a unique provider of early years childcare in the heart of Southwark.
It has 59 childcare places for children aged between 3 months and 5 years. Unlike other nursery care providers in the Borough, The Arc is proud of its not-for-profit charitable status and is overseen by a board of trustees, made up of a group of parents who have or have had their children attend the nursery.
A key part of what we do is to provide the best quality childcare at an affordable price to local parents to enable the subsidisation of several places to families who otherwise couldn’t afford it or have particular needs.
It’s a mission that it is steeped in our history and something we’re incredibly proud of.
The nursery has sole use of a detached, two storey period building which boasts an outdoor garden on the ground floor and a natural roof garden where the children have access to our mud kitchen, and planting allotment. Both of which, the children have a chance to use daily throughout the year.
All children are provided with nutritious home cooked meals which are cooked on site by our own chef.
We regularly take the children on outings to local parks and attractions, and on various trips throughout the year to places of interest such as farms/museums. This allows them to explore and learn about particular subjects and enables us to give them the best learning experiences available.
The nursery is open from 8am-6pm throughout the year, although it is closed for all Bank holidays, the week between Christmas and New year and three inset days per year for staff training.
In our setting, we are committed to the continuous professional development of our staff, which in turn benefits the children by improving the quality of childcare we offer.
We have a Nursery Manager who is supported by a Deputy manager and Office manager and each room has a designated Room Leader. The nursery follows the Government’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, that is laid down by Ofsted and supports all our policies and procedures that are updated on a regular basis.
